By Bryan Peterson AKA Gades
My story tells the story of both the Lufia games from the point of view of Gades, Sinistral of Destruction. Since I am doing a story about one Sinistral you can guess that I will also write stories for the others, including the mysterious Arek.
Hear me, oh people of Earth, for I am Gades, master of destruction. Long have I and my brothers and sister existed and lain in wait for a time when we would rule a world. To tell the story of our failed attempts to rule Earth, I must travel back in time, to the time before the day when Earth and its creatures came into being. I will travel back to when we ourselves came into existence. We each began as an idea in the mind of our father, the Sinistral Arek, who is eternal. We were nothing before that, but now we were beings of great power. First came my brother Daos, and he stands atop us still. Next came my sister Erim. Next there was Amon, whose very name would later send a fearful chill down the spine of even the bravest mortal. Finally I came, and I was the most destructive. Arek would find uses for us in crushing his enemies. Then he mistakenly caused to be made a sword which could amplify the energy of its carrier. This was the Dual Blade, and it would have been Daos' sword. But so powerful was this weapon that in the moment of its creation it achieved a conscious mind of its own. This would not have been a problem but the sword decided to become an object of good, and it burned my brother Daos severely when he laid hand upon it. In rage he banished the Dual Blade from the heavens, saying that in the day that he laid eyes upon it again would he destroy it. Arek was deeply troubled by the sword's reaction and strove to understand it, placing strict orders upon Daos never to go near the Dual Blade's resting place until the time was right. For centuries we watched time pass and waited. There was no sign of Dual Blade anywhere, and this troubled us. I grew bored as any immortal will without any form of entertainment. Then some form of energy unknown to us caused to be made the world. Upon it were created people, trees, plants and animals, and in its air were the birds. Also in the air were set the greatest beings of all, the mighty dragons. Some turned to the worship of us, but others worshipped other beings, of whom we knew nothing. The people worshipped many different gods, but great was our rage when none came to us. In anger, Arek opened the air to that world and spoke unto the people, saying the following words.
"Hear me, people of Earth! I am Arek, immortal and Eternal god of the universe. You worship other gods but you do not worship the true rulers of the universe. You think yourselves powerful, but you will learn the truth in time! I will give you one thousand years in which to mend your false ways. If I and my children see no change at the end of that time will we strike down your cities and drive you forth!"
The thousand years passed slowly. I amused myself by causing chaos and destruction wherever I went. I concealed myself so that none would detect me, and at the end of the thousand years I went unto my father and spoke to him.
"Master," said I, "The people of Earth are still under the worship of the false gods. Will we stand by and allow this to continue?" "No!" Arek replied, "Who do you believe should rule Earth? Should it be we Sinistrals or humankind?" "Humans are so pathetic! It should be us!" Arek smiled and dismissed me. He asked the same question of the others, and great was his satisfaction when they all agreed. It was about then when Dual Blade started making a nuisance of itself. Arek told Erim that the Dual Blade had ordained that a challenger would come against us from the mortals, and we must meet him. In anger I elected to destroy all humans. But my father and siblings held me back, saying, "It is not the time. The Dual Blade must have its challenge or it will destroy us." And so it was that Maxim was born. Erim sensed his great power right away and knew he might be able to wield Dual Blade. Arek ordered her to go and observe the mortals to see how they behaved. Daos ordered her to prepare the young man to meet us. It was here, I think, that we made our mistake. During her time among mortals, Erim disguised herself as Iris, a young woman searching for answers. She became a giver of life instead of a bringer of death. This did not happen right away, (in fact it only becomes clear to me now), but I believe that had one of us, (myself, Amon or Daos), been selected, we could have won. At any rate, when Maxim grew into a young man, we made our move. Erim provoked the lad to set out on a quest, during which many people joined him. Eventually, after finding out what was really going on, Maxim reached the kingdom of Parcelyte, where he met the young woman who was to become his truest friend as well as his wife. I, in the meantime, decided to raise hell. I went to the land of Gordovan and destroyed the city. I was disappointed, though, since the people didn't attack me. They just stood around and watched. This was enough to trigger the event I wanted, though. Maxim came after me. He didn't know who I was yet, but that was about to change. We met at the top of the tower west of Gordovan, and I beat down the young man. That should have ended the matter, but some woman came in and saved him. As I said, I didn't know what was happening to Erim yet, so I had no idea that Iris was Erim. I got away, but now Maxim was alerted to our presence. After thwarting a number of plans that were set in motion by us, he finally found me at the top of the ancient tower that lay to the east of Bound Kingdom. At any rate, he'd gotten stronger since I'd whipped him at our last meeting, and this time he took me down! I'd already planted the device which would sink Seim Island and destroy Parcelyte, so I had only to push the switch. I did this with my last ounce of strength. Again, that should have been enough, but Maxim thwarted me again. Even in spirit form I knew what was going on, and Amon later reported that Idura, one of his own servants, had failed him twice. It was then that we decided that things were not working out the way we had planned. With Camu and Idura out of the way, our enemy could concentrate on finding Dual Blade, which we now knew was going to make sure we faced Maxim or died. Well, after many adventures, (during which he met many loyal friends and had a baby born to him by Selan his wife), Maxim came at last to our island. With him came Selan, and the mighty warrior Guy, whom Amon, Daos and I had all encountered beforehand. Also came Artea the Elf, who had a special grievance against Amon, who had killed a close friend of his. We fought valiantly but we fell. We took Selan and Maxim with us, and almost destroyed his son, but with his last energies and the help of that damn Dual Blade, Maxim once again defeated us.
A hundred years later, Daos began to revive us. We found no trace of Erim, and this troubled us. We made no move for a while, but when a young man in the kingdom of Alekia underwent training to become a knight of Alekia, we soon realized that he was a descendant of Maxim, and I and my brothers felt fear grip our souls. Then a girl called Lufia appeared in Alekia, and we were startled to find that she was a mortal version of Erim. Had Erim survived? The only difference was that this girl had no memory of her past, so if it was really Erim she didn't know it. Anyway, I destroyed Sheran, the kingdom north of Alekia, as part of our grand plan. The descendant of Maxim, (whose name was Wedge), came with his friend Lufia and encountered me. I easily took him down, but Lufia appeared out of nowhere and I decided to leave. We didn't encounter each other for quite a long time, during which the boy decided to grow powerful. He met Guy, who lived to be over a hundred, and learned that Artea the Elf might know how to destroy me. Lufia went with him, and Aguro, commander of the army of Lorbenia, (and someone I wasn't going to mess with), joined them. Later, they interrupted a ceremony that would revive Amon completely by saving Jerin, a half-Elf, whom I believe was descended from Artea. Jerin led the group on a quest which ended in their finding Artea. Artea helped them by giving Jerin his bow and telling them just what we didn't want them to hear. He said that they needed to go after Dual Blade. So they did. A man named Raile Shaia helped them by letting them have a ship he'd made. The group went and found Alumina, and with this precious metal, Shaia rigged up the Falcon so it could go under the sea. So it was that the friends came to our old fortress and stole the Dual Blade. It was about then that Daos, Amon and I decided to pay the group a little visit, during which Daos told Wedge that his girlfriend Lufia was Erim, the last Sinistral. Then we raised Doom Island again. The companions did some more damage to our carefully conceived plans and killed our most powerful warriors. Eventually, though, Daos got control of Lufia and the Dual Blade fell at last into our hands. We were finally able to subdue it, (so we thought), but Wedge came against us with his two friends. I was the first to fall, then Amon, then Daos. Erim almost joined with us to become one creature, but then Wedge spoiled it all by showing her love. She broke free of us and Guard Daos was forced to fight without her. Guard Daos is the combined energies of myself and my siblings, a powerful force indeed. But it was no match for Wedge and his friends. We fell yet again, and Dual Blade used its energy to put us to rest. Lufia was slain in that battle by Wedge, who didn't want to do that, but knew that while Lufia lived we would keep coming back. But Lufia survived still and went again with Wedge. She'd lost her memory, (again), but Wedge proceeded to start a new life with Lufia. He believed that old memories were not important as long as new ones could be made. We were out of the picture, but hear me, descendant of Maxim! The day will come when not even you will be able to stop us! Then you will know the pain you put us through and more besides! Hear me, oh people, for the day will come when we will have our revenge!
